  1. manhattan upper east side. but its the most expensive too.

  2. Try the outer boroughs like Brooklyn or Queens. There are very nice areas in both boroughs that are still close to the city and easy to commute from.

    Examples -

    Williamsburg, Brooklyn

    Astoria, Queens

    Long Island City, Queens

  3. If you want to live close the city, but not in it - Astoria is a great area with lots of affordable apartments and great restaurants.

Going a little farther past that - the following are all nice neighborhoods with easy access to the city - Jackson Heights, East Elmhurst, Sunnyside and Woodside.

If you choose Brooklyn - Williamsburg and Greenpoint are really close to the city, but recently the area has become over-run with hipsters and the rents have gone sky high.

You would be better off going towards Brooklyn Heights/Dumbo or even the Park Slope area.

Just make sure you don't find a place on the G train route - that is the slowest train in the whole city!

  4. h***s KITCHEN

  5. Brooklyn or Queens. Even Long Island, you can take the LIRR.

  6. I lived in Manhattan as a kid, loved it, don't know what the rents like though, it's been a long time.
