  1. Staten Island is NYC but is pretty residential with houses so I'd check there first. Great Kills is a pretty good area. You can always take the Staten Island ferry to Manhattan too. Brooklyn is a tough one along with Bronx. For Brooklyn I'd say Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, and some other south west sections would be your best bet and that's about a 45 minute subway ride to Midtown. Bronx, I'd have to say Belmont. Your best bet is to try and find a place in Staten Island. Long Island is a great place to look into too. Train Stations to the city are in almost every town. Anywhere in Nassau can get you to NYC in an hour or less. Most people that live on the island work in the city. Good Luck

  2. For Bronx I would look into the Castle Hill, Pelham Bay, Pelham Parkway, or even Throggs Neck or Coop city.  Coop city and Throggs Neck will be the hardest to reach the train lines, but there is public transportation in the area.  Pelham Bay and Castle Hill are on the 6 lines; Pelham Parkway is on the 5 line.  Are you looking to rent or own (house, coop or condo)?  Home prices in the Bronx can be pricey but still look around.

  3. Pelham Bay area ( Buhre Ave stop on the 6 train) is very nice. kind of a long and crowded ride in the morning commute but it's not an expensive area. it used to be mostly Italian but now it is a mixed of people. they aalso have very good restaurant, a beach nearby and City Island.
