Does anyone have a baby name book that they really recommend? There are so many to choose from, and I have no idea where to start. If you have read any that you really like, please let me know the title/author, and why the book should be recommended. I have an "online" girl certificate for Chapters, and would love to purchase one, I just never have time to go to the "real" store and look through all the books! Thank you!

  1. The Bible!

  2. I have a random one called, "40,001 Best Baby Names" by Diane Stafford. It's pretty good. It has meanings for tons of names in the back. As well as lists describing what kind of name it is.

  3. I agree with the person that said Beyond Jennifer & Jason, Madison & Montana it's by Pamela Redmond Satran & Linda Rosenkrantz, kind

of. That one was published in 1999, they have a newer one called Cool Names for Babies that was published in 2003, that's what I used to name my youngest two.  It's great!!  It gives names that are unique and not extremely popular, yet, but also aren't out there.  If you check out the authors they may have something newer.  Either way I highly recommend it.  It's much different than a traditional baby name book, where you just get lost in a sea of alphabetical baby names.

  4. The Baby Name Wizard. It is a very good, well researched and it doesn't just tell you the meaning of the name (which you can find out free of charge online. I suggest Behindthename.com), she gives a little blurb about each name, as well as suggestions. Like if you like X name you might like Y name. It's also a pretty recent one (I think it was published in 2003).

  5. Personally, I like "Beyond Jennifer and Jason, Madison and Montana" by Linda Rosenkrantz and Pamela Redmond. Instead of just listing names, their origins and meanings, it gives catergories. The catergories are things like creative, high energy, ultra-popular, celebrity babies, flower names, intellectual names, etc. It helps you see the image of a name. It also offers solutions to questions like, How should I name twins? What if my sister-in-law wants to use the same name I do? etc. I think it was published in 1999, so the popularity rankings might not be entirely correct, but it's still a great resource.

  6. The "Everything" Baby Names book is cool
