  1. NEW Berkley®. PowerBait® 6" Flippin'Tail Worm, Black and Chartruse.  Use with a weedless/weighted hook. It's a killer bait.  I haven't tried any other color but these baits are worth trying.

  2. The only way you could go wrong is to use a lure that doesn't mimic a baitfish. In the low light times, bass can see better than most of the baitfish out there, thus they go after the baifish. I like anything topwater, because it mimics fish struggling on the surface. Try a zara spook, or most any popper or buzzbait. Topwater frogs even work, because they look like fish to the bass*. Crankbaits and big jerkbaits also work well.

  3. Spinner baits always work for me.  White, chartreuse, or firetiger.

  4. if you're fishing with live bait... hook a frog in the front leg and gently throw him out on some calm water and watch!!  or some minnows without a weight on them - they tend to swim near the surface.....

for artificials - I like anything that makes topwater noise - if it's choppy/windy I revert to spinnerbaits - color depends on if it's overcast or bright(soon to be a sunny day)...

  5. you can never go wrong with a spinner.  i catch 4 - 5 lb bass in the morning on a white spinner.  i also catch pike with it :)

  6. Depending on your weather conditions...

If it's a some what calm morning I like to go with a top water lure as this is the time where a lot of insects are active before the heat of the day drives them into hiding. Some baits like a Zara Spook, Heddons Torpedo, or a jitterbug will work wonders.

Another good lure is the buzzbait. You can get these at walmart for under 2 bucks. No need to get the expensive name brands.  These topwater baits buzz along the top of the water... you kind of have to be fast when reeling them in and keep a constant speed.

another favorite morning bait is a Gary Yamamoto Senko worm. you fish these near cover or over weedbeds.  as you come to teh edge of the weed or grass bed let it fall below the surface, wait about 30-60 seconds and then  give it a few twitches. Repeat this until the bait is close to you. No need to use a weight. if you know how to do a texas rig then you can tie one of these on.  if you have any more questions on fishing feel free to e-mail me

  7. When the sun is just starting to rise and the water is fairly calm, I like throwing a noisey topwater bait, it really does the job for me. The pop'r or buzz baits are more than most bass can stand in the morning. Especially around cover or shallow water structure. And the adrenaline rush from a topwater strike is enough to knock your coffee right outta the boat! Awesome, give it a try and tight lines!!!
