I am looking to get a new battery for my car, i am currently doing it up for track days, i was advised that Gel would be a good choice, this was because then there is very little chance of the battery leaking.

I then heard about dry batteries, and i was wondering overall what battery was best or do they all have the same effect to the car?

Thanks

  1. while dry cell batteries(like optima etc) are a very good battery the cost is higher then say a maintance free battery(that is a lot cheaper) and is a good alternative as it is almost leak proof

as long as you stick w a 12v and the same amp rating the battery  will give the same performance as your old battery.

but, of you are going to be doing stuff liike running crazy angles you might want to fork out the extra cash for a optima like battery

    goodluck

  2. the best all round battery for heavy useage and withstanding really rough vibration is a gel battery. Next is a sealed maintenance free battery.

  3. The optima battery is a great battery. the one I have in my truck has 1000 cranking amps, and the Cold cranking amps are 800. this is a very powerful battery.

I have run an optima down once but after an overnight trickle charge it worked just fine.

and an optima is a dry

  4. You should get a wet (normal) battery.  A gel battery is only useful if the battery leans often.

A gel battery makes great sense for a jet ski or a dirt bike - but not a car.  As for starting power, they all will do the job the exact same; it is just gels will do it for double the price.
