Mexico has over 10,000 KM/6,000 MI.of shoreline.There are great beaches everywhere you go in Mexico .Cancun is a nice beach but there are literally hundreds of others just as nice as Cancun....Some much nicer!

the best beach in mexico is puerto progreso in mexico state of yucatan.

there is no much crowd like cancun and is near to merida, rich cultural,colonial city , and chichen itza.

That's a very difficult question, but if i had to choose one, it would be Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca in the Pacific Ocean, you can swim, snorkel and surfing. It is not so commercial as Huatulco, but offers you a lot of tourism facilities.

Also there are some other beaches that deserve to be consider, like:

Puerto Peñasco in Sonora, Los cabos and Loreto in Baja California, Manzanillo and Mazuntle, all in the Pacific Coast.

Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, Zihuatanejo are also great beaches, but they are full of tourists and doesn't offer much new.

and in the Caribbean sea you must also visit once in your life: Cozumel, Tulum and Isla Mujeres.

And in the Gulf there are Veracruz and Tampico that are in my opinion interesting cities but the beaches aren't exactly the best.
