  1. Punta Diamante is the most exclusive beach.

Beaches in the city are not so clean, it is better to go out sof the city for a 20 or 30 minute ride and you will find incredible places in Punta diamante, that is where tho most exclusive Hotels are.

  2. Go to Zihuatanejo! This place is very nice a you get more of a personal touch with the people there and it is still high in tourism. Also it is not to far from Acapulco. My wife's family is from Zihuatanejo! You'll love it!!

  3. The strip on the bay is your best bet...

  4. I suggest you El Cano hotel. It's a wonderful one, with a great breakfast and with private beach. You can see and hear the ocean, just under your balcony.

  5. A beach has many personalities - Acapulco is a bay with a south ( airport ) and North ( marina ) end. The southen end has a more $$$ feel to it as that is where Diamante is located. New upscale development is occuring with a fever. The more affluent housing / condos are located here. Towards the center of the bay you have your mainstream high rise hotels not to mention Wal Mart and Hooters. The North end is Old Acapulco. This is where the cruise ships come in, the fisherman bring their bounty here to sell to the local resturants.

During the week the beaches are very empty. A few straggling beggars and peddlers but pretty deserted. I find the personality kinda weird. All the typical signs of a happening beach scene are there - Jet ski rentals, cabana huts, some salsa music heard in the background. The high rise hotels looming in the background. But the people are missing, sounds of children playing - missing !!! Pay attention to the cruise ships and when they are comming in. Ask the local people - these ships come in on a regular schedule and when they dock and the people come off of course the town changes for those 24 hrs. Resturants a little more packed, beaches shoehorned with tourist's. Something to consider - Me personally - I don't travel to experience and talk to Americans in a different far away city - I travel to experience how other cultures look at life. It makes me a more well rounded person that can see things from more perspectives.

The beach sand is a little coarse and a steep descent ( in the middle of the bay ) into the ocean. Kinda' hard to walk on with out sinking into it. Its the same sand on the two ends of the bay but it's a nice gradual slop to the ocean. Bring a towel and cooler - the chair, lounges and tables you can get once you get on the beach. You can find someone who will be more than happy to keep an eye on your drink level and go up to the local bar for you. He will do a great job and will ask for a  small tip. I go that route AFTER my cooler is empty.

The peddlers and beggers are a nusiance and with a group it's hard to stop the on going parade. Alone, I found that reading a book was a strong deterrant. Hope this gives you an idea as to the feel of the town. But without a doubt - especially since it's your 21st b- day and all , go to the Marina end of the bay an hour or two before sunset. Find the big Mexican flag and to the right of it youll find a bar that has tables and chairs that go right to the waters edge. Watch the sunset with your friends and make a toast ...... Email me and I'll come down and join you.......
