  1. The best way to learn Spanish really depends on the person, but there are various things you must take into account, when you make a decision:

    1)  How motivated are you to study even when there is no one pushing you?  If you aren't very motivated, then it is probably not the best idea to learn the language, because any method won´t be real effective, but if you need to learn it even though you don't want to, then having a real live human teacher is a good idea.

    2)  What sort of flexibility do you have in your daily life to take lessons?  Are you someone who seems to have a different schedule each day, or is your schedule very set.  This will help you to determine which options are available to you.  Typically software is very flexible, but live classes are very structured (not always the case, but typical).  Remember, the more motivated you are, the more flexible a solution you can use.

    3)  Why are you learning the language?  If you are learning it to pass a written test, or are you learning it because you really want to be able to use it.  Software is good to teach you vocabulary and grammar based rules, but they lose out on the interactivity necessary to make the learning stick and useful in daily life.

The best option is to go to a native Spanish speaking country and hire a private Spanish teacher who has 10+ years teaching Spanish as a second language to foreigners and a Masters degree in Linguistics to teach you intensively all day long for a few months.  While this is probably the most costly both in time and money, it is definitely the most effective, and one that I know many people who have done.

Since that isn't an option for most people the typical options are software based solutions like Rocket Spanish and Rosetta Stone, or live based classes that you can find in your local community.  But if you want the flexibility, of software with the live private teaching of a native teacher, and the flexibility of live classes, you might check out an online hybrid learning school like http://www.lejoslearning.com.

Good luck learning Spanish.  It is a lot of fun to be able to speak another language.

  2. The best way would probably be taking classes from a native speaker. But unfortunately this is not always possible or maybe too expensive. You could also try online courses with cds and/or software.

  3. Marry a Spanish person

  5. there are cd's you can buy and u learn the language in 30 days.

also there are mp3s you can listen in your sleep and u will slowly become fluent and understand

  6. Learning in a classroom with a teacher is the best way in my opinion. But obviously this isn't possible for everyone. If you can't take a formal course in the language I'd recommend buying a good audio CD collection like Pimsleur to start out with, along with a really good self-help book for learning spanish (The Idiot's guide to Learning Spanish works pretty well) along with a useful bilingual dictionary.

When I didn't have the option of learning Portuguese my Freshman year in college, I took this approach and found that I learned quite a bit. I didn't know how much I knew at the time however, so my Sophomore I signed up for a Portuguese class only to find out that I knew 80% of everything being taught in the class.

The fact that I was able to pace myself while studying alone actually worked to my advantage. So now I've decided to learn French on my own as well.

If you stay focused and are serious about learning the language I'm positive you'll see similar results with Spanish. One word of advice though is that even if you don't have a professor to instruct you it really helps to have someone who can help you out when the audio CDs and the books don't explain everything clear enough. What helped me substantially was finding a penpals over the internet who helped me learn. I help them with English and they help me with their language.

If you think you'd be interested in something like this check out the website www.livemocha.com

    It's amazing! Good luck!
