What is the best bicycle brand to get $300 and under?

I'm looking to buy a new bike but I need to know the best bicycles and brands preferrably around $300 and under... anyone know some good ones?

for under 300 i would check out GT, Specialized maybe, or a haro. I cant really give a good answer because i dont know what bike type you want like mountain,  hardtail, bmx, etc.

Just stay away from Walmart, K-Mart, Target, and any other big box store.

In this price range almost every bike is equipped the same. Go to several local bike shops and talk with them.

At this price range brand doesn't matter at all, but you will fing that Trek and Specialized tend to have one grade LOWER components than most other brands in this price range so I would tend to stay away from them- not because of quality, but because they just don't provide the best value.
