I will be participating in my first Triathlon in August and I need a bike that will work well for that. I've never had anything other then a mountain bike. I thought maybe a hybrid would be a good choice, but I'm not set on it. I know that I could ride just about anything in my first triathlon, but i want to get a good bike that I can keep for many years, but I don't really want to spend a fortune on it. I looked at a Trek 7.2FX WSD, and I really like it...but very expensive! I've never spend more then 100 bucks on a bike...so spending a lot is very hard =)

  1. If it is a serious triathlon and you are competing I am surprised you don't have a road bike yet. Mountain bikes are too slow for triathlons. The other athletes will be doing laps around you. If you put out 400 bucks you can get a decent road bike that will last you a while. Consult your local bike shop.

  2. dont even listen to them people that say you get what you pay for i like watching some fool and his money buy the expensive bike ride it twice and park it in there garage and sell it to me for a fraction of the cost keep your eyes on www.craigslist.com you will find a nice one

  3. 200 bucks or less for a bike is not going to get you where you want; it will only frustrate you. If you are set on that price, craislist often sells old bikes for under that price, but you are still not going to get what you really want out of the bike. If you have a mountain bike, just buy some slicks and replace your knobby tires. It will ride just like a hybrid and you don't have to spend more than 50 bucks. Mountain bikes sell for less than road bikes, so going back to the internet you can find decent bikes for less than 100 which don't have suspension, and you put slicks on that bike, still you reach you < 200 goal. That is what I would do until you decide you are really going to ride a lot, then spend the money >500 for a good bike.

  4. Surge Mountain Bike from target or Jeep Overland S Comfort Mountain Bike or Schwinn Ridge AL Women's Mountain Bike.

  5. The best thing you can do is buy an older, 10-15 year old road bike. You just can't beat a road bike to be competitive. Decent older bikes can be had for <$200. Don't buy an old Schwinn Varsity type bike but a light weight quaility bike. You don't need new technology, you need a good fitting bike with realitively good wheels and tires.

Check Craigs List, bike shops etc.

  6. you should check out a used bike store there cheap but are good quality
