What is the best bike?

Question

Im new to this, ive rode a dirt bike a few times and i want to get a street bike, i hear the a 250 Ninja is a good bike to start with, i want something kinda small and i really like the new GXSR but it kinda big and expensive and being new i would really hate to hurt that bike or myslef, i was thinking about something used but i dont want to get ripped off, im told that you can get a new bike for about $4000 but i see used ones for that much, how much mileage is too much for a used bike? am i better off buying a new one?
