What is the best bike rack for a 2006 Honda Civic Coupe?

I would like to fit 2 - 3 bikes on it. I have a sunroof, so a roof one probably wouldn't be good...

Thanks!

  1. I have an 07 Honda civic coupe and i use the standard BELL Strap bike rack.  It can hold 2 bikes.  I have put 2 heavy mountain bikes on it and driven interstate from south Louisiana to north Carolina! Over 1000 miles and the bikes never moved.  It's great and not a pain at all. Takes like 30 seconds top to get the rack on the car and another 30 to get the bikes on the rack.

Best part of it all is that you can get it at wal-mart and it's only like 30 dollars not 150 or 200 or more like most.  And when you are not using it it folds up.

I know you think probably that a bike rack from walmart is no good but i have used this one for like 5 years and it still works good as any other bike rack out there.  Only down side is you can only fit two bikes on it.

here is a link and you can see what it looks like.  I'm telling you it works and you are saving money!!!!  I have put $2500 bikes on this thing, I trust it.  Look it up!!!!

  2. That leaves you two choices:  Either a strap-mounted trunk rack like a Saris Bones, or get a hitch installed so you can use a hitch-mounted bike rack.  You can get a hitch with a 1.25" receiver for your Civic for around $150 or so.  Places like U-Haul carries them and will install for a fee.

A strap-mounted trunk rack is the cheapest option.

Personally I like hitch-mounted racks better, even though it's a lot more expensive (you got to buy the hitch and the rack separately).  They hold the bikes away from your car so you can still open the trunk, which you can't do with the strap-mounted racks.  You also tend to get less dings and scratches on your car from the bikes with a hitch-mounted rack.

    Hope this helps.

  3. If at all possible get a hitch mounted rack. Barring that,

Yakima makes great racks, but because of the shape of the coupe, the King Joe is your only option. This comes in a 2 or 3 bike version. It simply straps onto the back of the car.
