I've had a lot of get togethers at my house with a group of friends but it seems that we are running out ideas to have a good time. I'm trying to figure out what board game would be great with a group of about 10-12 people.

  1. LIFE

  2. Okay.  Weird answer, but here goes.  Mah Jongg.  The real game, not that stupid matching game on the internet.  In the military, many of the wives learn it through Officers Wives Club, and it is so very addictive.  It is a difficult game, like chess.  But if you want something different and for intellectuals, Mah Jongg is it.  I think that is why there arent any real computer versions.  It is too complicated to map every scenario.  Try the Wright Patterson Air Force Base rules.  Only about 200 ways to go out in that version.  Also, if you live near Miami, a lot of the old Jewish ladies on the beach play it.  And yes, you can play while drinking....well not the first few times.

  3. Apples to apples is pretty great for that big of a crowd but nothing beats curses! everyone gets "curse" cards and is forced to keep their elbows together or talk like there is a golf ball in their mouth through the whole game it's hilarious!

  4. clue

  5. I recommend pictionary or cranium.

  6. scategories or monopoly or trival pursuit

  7. there is one call agravation, the game is fun, but may be you should mention the ones that you already have, so we wont suggest the same ones.

  8. monoply or whatever

  9. I agree with Lee, try Cranium.  Lots of different activities, and I believe you can buy new card packs if  you get bored of the same ones.  [Though there are 4 different types of activities, and i believe at least 100 cards for each.]

  10. The "best " boardgame for 10 -12 people that I know of is called, "The Werewolves of Millers Hollow."   The best website to find information on boardgames is boardgamegeek.com.

  11. Cranium, Life, and Scatagories

  12. monopoly or sorry

  13. risk

  14. Monopoly is a classic. You should try Taboo, thats real fun.

  15. apples to apples

  16. I love cranium but only when in a big group

otherwise clue or monopoly are fun

  17. With that many people put 2 or more decks of Uno cards together. That and a few cases of beer!

  18. Risk is da bomb, but can only be played with 6 people. You could make teams though, and it wouldn't really make a big difference.

  19. A great group activity you can do, which you can buy as a board game [but I make it myself because it's cheaper!] is Pictionary. It's like Charades, but you basically just devide into teams [so 10-12 players is fine.] What you do is write lots of books and film titles etc on pieces of paper, then you take it turns to pick one, then you have one minute to draw that thing, for your team to guess. You can only draw, though, you can't speak, or gesture! [or write words]. I hope this is helpful. It's great for a big group and if you're imaginative it can go on for a while!

  20. Try Wits and Wagers. A trivia game wher each person puts down an answer and the ebveryone bets on who got it right. You may want to take alook at Saboteur a card game wher you try and get through a mine to collect the treasure but some of the players are trying toi sabotage the dig and keep the gold for themselves. Check them out over at www.boardgamegeek.com

  21. Scrabble, Literati, or Monopoly.

  22. Risk, you can never go wrong with monopoly.

  23. Pictionary is very fun, charades is a classic. I like poker nights though, get everyone to bring $20 and the winner takes out the pot or you can have a first, second and third divide.

  24. Apples to Apples, The Great Dalmuti or Snorta! are great for a group of 10-12 people!

They do get better when people are intoxicated as well, I always bring these when I am going to a larger gathering.

Most say they're for a max of 8 people, but you can make teams or play to seperate games. We'll do that when we have a family gathering with 10-14 people.

***Edit** I thought of another one too, it's called "Are You A Werewolf?". It's made for at 8-15 players and is a spin off of the old game Mafia. The game is by Looney Labs. http://www.looneylabs.com

  25. Trivial Pursuit.

  26. Cranium...you play in teams and you see what kind of crazy stuff your friends can do!

  27. You could try Werewolf.  It's a pretty crazy game.  You could make your own game pretty easily.  It's basically a psychological game where you try to figure out which player is the werewolf.  Each round, the werewolf eats one of the players.  Then the players decide who they think the werewolf is.  Then they kill that player, the player reveals his secret identity and he's out of the game.  The play continues until the werewolf is finally caught.  Its a pretty crazy game.

  28. Scrabble.

  29. Right now my group is playing Settlers of Catan, but I think that it only for up to 6 players.  Arkham Horror might be fun to play cooperatively.  With that many players it might be too easy though...  The game I'm bringing to our next session is Zendo.  I haven't played it myself but it would work for large group.
