  1. You could try Joe Joseph: The Japanese: Strange But Not Strangers.

    Its fun and certainly easy to read, though it gives very much an 'outsiders' view of Japanese culture, rather than an in-depth sociological analysis.


  2. One that you might enjoy would be "Shogun" by James Clavell. It was made into a Richard Chamberlain mini series in the '80's. But the book is much better, as usual.
