What is the best brand of HD Flat screen TV?

I'm looking to invest in one. What's best...and why?

for a plasma you should buy a pioneer (but they're hella expensive) for LCD try samsung/sharp/sony personally i like samsung the most becuase they have good quality picture and the design of the tv is extremely stylish but for value i own a 46 inch toshiba regza series LCD TV i got it for 1500 and it has beautiful picture and it has a nice gloss black finish

In terms of picture quality, The Pioneer Kuro was declared the best by several review magazines.  Killer black levels (hard for a lot of TV's to do), and outstanding processing (no artifacts).

But you are talking about 4-6 thousand dollars.

The Sony XBR LCD's were declared the best LCD screens.  120 hz refresh to reduce motion blur.

My advice: Go to the Library and pick up the December issue of "Home Theater" magazine or the Jan issue of "The Perfect Vision".  Both magazines recommend similar sets as being either best of the year or editors choice.
