  1. I have a sharp aquos and it looks really really good.  i know someone with a sony bravia which isnt as good

  2. I have a Citizen 10" Black and White from the 70's...works just great and cost me $1.00 at a yard sale.

  3. i have watched sports on both hd lcd and hd plasma...my sugestion is to go with a plasma before anything else...when you watch hockey on an lcd, it isnt as smooth and when you see the puck fly down the ice you can see that it leaves a small trail behind it.  The lcd can't handle really fast moving objects like hockey puck or golf balls nearly as good as the plasma.  And that whole thing about a plasma not being as reliable is bogus, the first ones yes but now they last a little bit less longer then the lcd, its very minimal...i have a 50 in samsung and love it and a 30 in lcd samsung in my room, i refuse to watch sports in my bed because of it. go to a tv shop and ask someone who works there and that watches sports and they will tell you the same.

  4. I am in the same boat myself. I am looking to get an lcd because I am sick of regular reception on a crt tv. I will watch this question for advice.

  5. I can share that I have shopped for many months and checked out a ton of different brands in the store.

At the end of the day, I have purchased 3 different HDTV's.

The worst was a 42" 1080P LCD from Vizio.  Purchased from roughly $1500 from costco in September of 2007. This one is now in the hands of my mother-in-law who is satisfied with it, after all its better than the old analog...but the picture always appeared a bit hazy or fuzzy to me.

My other two are currently being used in my house.  I set up an alternate gaming room as well as simply an alternate TV for the kids to enjoy.  This is a 42" 720P Plasma from Panasonic.  Purchased form $899 on Black Friday from Best Buy.  -  Awesome picture, great HD quality as well as non-HD quality.  I HIGHLY recommend Panasonic and the 720's are plenty great for the current HD broadcast signals available.

My final and favorite TV is a 58" 720P Plasma from Panasonic.  Purchased through Costco for $2500 delivered August of 2007.  I have this in the living room and it has been one of the best purchased I have ever made.  Great HD picture...Awesome for HD Hockey!!!  - the only negative is that it is so big, that the non-HD signals appear a bit different and odd at times.  But again in HD mode with a true full HD broadcast...it's as if I am at the game!!!

My preference is to first stay away from LCD type flat screens.  They are brighter but the details are not as crisp as the Plasma.

I also do NOT like Vizio...low cost yes,  also you get what you pay for, which is low performance.

If you can put together your cash and wait until the Friday after Thanksgiving...the "Black Friday" sales, you can find some seriously awesome deals...but you might have to be ready to shop at 5:00 AM...or as soon as the early bird opening is at your local electronics store.

Just a note of strategy...team up to find the best early bird deal...My wife and kids like to go shopping early on Black Friday...we each visit a different store and then we call each other or text each other with the prices of the items we are looking for...once we have the best deal, we take it  and hold it until I can get to that store to pay for the item.

We have found some pretty cool deals and we have fun using the time as a scavenger hunt!!!

Then we all go out to each breakfast and enjoy the leftovers from Turkey Day!!!

  6. I would get Vizio most bang for you buck lest problems

  7. my grandpa got a vizio and i like football on that but nhl isnt as good it seems kinda weird..idk why but its better than nothing ..i dont kno much about tvs but vizio isnt the best for hockey

  8. Do you plan on receiving an HD signal?  Otherwise the TV will not matter.

Samsung and Sharp consistently rate high.  You plan on going 1080p 120Hz, correct?

My favorite right now is the Mitsubishi LT-52148 (52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV).  Fantastic picture, small bezel, great performance when watching fast action (such as hockey).  Enjoyed watching the Wings win the Stanley Cup on this TV.
