I'm searching for a really nice set of golf clubs as a birthday present for my boyfriend. he's about an intermediate player. i dont want to buy a really cheap set nor do i want to purchase a super expensive set because he only goes every once in a while. however, i do want a complete set by a well-respected brand to present as a gift and he can slowly customize it himself. the only set i've found so far is by Adams golf which seem really nice but to be honest, i know nothing about golf. any suggestions about complete sets of golf clubs brand-wise? i dont want to exceed $600 unless i absolutely must.....

  1. Visit this website www.tgw.com and search men irons. You will be able to set a price range and there are some great brandnames there for under 600. I like TaylorMade Clubs. They are one of the industry leaders. They may have a set for 400 buck and they work nice. I bought mine at full price last year and now their discounted.

  2. A good friend of mine just started playing about 6 months ago with some borrowed clubs. He searched around a ended up buying some Adams A2 clubs. (These are the hybrid type which I believe are better suited for higher handicaps or people who don't play that much) . He found them at rockbottom golf for about $300.00 he then bought a taylor made r7 driver for $150.00 he really likes them because he hits them pretty good and he spent less than $600.00 for the complete set.

  3. The best brands are definitely not going to be under $600, golf clubs are pretty expensive. I would suggest Callaway, Ping, and maybe Mizuno. You could try eBay to get them cheaper - order 'em off there is pretty safe, it's not likely you're going to get a club that doesn't work...

  4. It's more personal preference really, does he prefer steel shafts or graphite? What's the brand of his current set?? I can give you a list of some trusted brands that may be of use to you (note this is what i personally think). For the irons, I'd get Mizuno or Titleist, for the fairway woods and Driver, Taylormade's the best. But Callaway, Ping and Cleveland are also good. For the putter I'd recommend Odyssey but in saying this, these are the best brands and to get all these they wouldn't be less than $600. But you can't go wrong with any of these brands: Titleist, Mizuno, Callaway, Cleveland, Ping or Taylormade. Every good golfer will appreciate them. Hope this helps!

  5. Take him shopping and let him pick them out.

  6. Callaway X20

  7. I reckon a full set of Callaway golf clubs, (including a putter too) will make a nice gift. Include a dozen Callaway golf balls too. Clubs with grahite alloy shafts would be ideal with a swing weight of C9 ~ D1 for each club, not more.

Your boyfriend will be more than happy to receive them. Besides, Callaway sets are not that very expensive either.

  8. The brand that your boyfriend feels the most confidence holding and swinging is the brand you should get.  They all have their pros and cons, it's really just a matter of getting fit for the clubs.

Take your boyfriend to a place like Golf Galaxy, most Dunham's, or a local pro shop and get him fit (length, lie and shaft flex).

Just take him to the place you're gonna buy the clubs, maybe call ahead so they know that you're coming but your guy is still clueless, so when he gets there they can take him right to the fitting area.  If you wanna set a money limit, he can still get some pretty dang good clubs from last year or the year before.  Irons haven't changed much in the last 10 years, and driviers have been good for the last 5 or so.

He's gonna be pretty geeked about the surprise, and even more so when he has clubs that are "just for him".

  9. The top brands that your boyfriend would be proud to have in his bag are in no particular order:  Titleiest, Taylormade, Cleveland, Callaway, and Ping.  But clubs are a very personal thing to a golfer so it might be best if you give him a $500 gift certifictate to Golf Galaxy or Golfsmith and he can go pick out the equipment he wants most.  And if he doesn't like it, drop him and you can be my girlfriend for that kind of gift.
