  1. Hello Ms. Wife>  :))

Well,  you have one of the best student model trumpets you could have for your child.  Why not just buy one of those?   There are others..... the King603 is good.  The Bach 200.  Conn has the director model and I think Getzen has a beginner trumpet as well.

Of all those I have mentioned,  you will probably find the Conn is the least expensive.   Try to find a used trumpet in excellent condition... this is the best route you can go and I venture to say, you can find one for $300 - $450.

Look for used in your local newspaper classifieds,  eBay,  bullitin boards,  Craigslist. org for your city or call around to local music stores to see if they have used instruments for sale...

    Thanks for reading.  :))

  2. I would probably go with a Bach student model trumpet because they are built really good and sound good too.

  3. Actually the trumpet you’re renting right now is the best student horn available today. If the music store has a rent to own policy on the trumpet you currently have get it or stick with it if you’re already have an agreement with the music store. If the store doesn’t have a rent to own policy and you can afford to buy the horn outright there are cheaper options that are just about as good as the Yamaha YTR 2335. In my opinion the close second best student horn hands down is the Getzen 390 Series student Bb trumpet. These horns are well made with the legendary Getzen valve cluster, which is the best in the business. They also come with nickel silver inner slides which mean the tuning slides are next to impossible to get stuck from dirt and grim or lack of cleaning. A new Getzen 390 costs about $725 in a lacquer “gold” finish. If that’s still out your price range the next horn down the list would be a Bundy BTR-300 at about $400 in a lacquer “gold” finish. The Bundy BTR-300 has similar features to the Getzen 390 though the valve cluster on the Bundy BTR-300 isn’t as good as the valve cluster on the Getzen 390. However the valve cluster for the Bundy BTR-300 is quite serviceable and will give a student years of good operation. If even the Bundy BTR-300 is out your range there’s still options. At the bottom list is the Conn-Selmer Prelude TR701. At about $230 new in a lacquer “gold” finish the Conn-Selmer Prelude TR701 lacks many of the high end features of the above mention horns but it does have all the essential features that a student horn needs to make learning trumpet a fun enriching experience.

    Hope this helps.
