What is the best bug spray to use in Mexico?

I'm going to Tulum in early August and plan to spend some time at exploring Coba and CHichen Itza and any other ruins that are with in a days drive. I know that everything I have read says to take some good bug spray but I remember hearing that the stuff I can buy here in California isn't quite strong enough. I don't know maybe there is a brand here or there that someone can recomend. Gracias!

The best product to use is called AUTAN.  It comes in a spray...which I do not like because of the fragrance...but is good for applying to hard to reach places...and a creme..with no fragrance.  You can buy it in many farmacias and in grocery stores or the pharmacy section of Walmart.  A product which is WONDERFUL for AFTER you get a bite is called ANDANTOL.. it is a clear ointment in a tube and you apply it as soon as you get the bite and again in a few minutes if needed..in a few minutes the itch is gone and you do not get the huge swelling that can occur after some bites.  I am an American living in the jungle of Veracruz...and I have tried every product out there.  These work. The AUTAN comes in a white tube with red lid...100ml...or a red and yellow spray can.  The ANDANTOL is a white tube with red print...100 gms.  The cost about $3.50 to $4.00 each...buy a bunch!

The product should have at least 30% deet. Go to Walmart or Target in their camping department you will find good bug spray. I like the Repel Mosquito Wipes. repels up to 10 hours. Good for mosquitos,ticks,biting flies,gnats and no-seeums.

Make sure you bring long sleeves and long pants, just in case you want to cover up more.( light cotton of course)
