camcorders now offer great video quality and some of them take pictures, what's the best we can expect from pictures from a camcorder?

  1. Define "best".

    Someone with skill can take GREAT pictures or shoot great video with the crappiest of cameras. Someone with no skill will take crappy picture with the best camera.

    Really good camcorders do not take high-pixel-count stills - Just as real still cameras do not take video.
