What is the best camera that's not too expensive?

I'm young still, but I'm an aspiring photographer. I have the Nikon Coolpix S7c. Here's the url: http://i37.tinypic.com/2rghl36.jpg

Its a nice camera, but It's not what I'd like. It was 300 bucks though!

What I'm asking, really, is some advice as to what camera would be best for me. I'd like maybe a digital SLR but I don't know which brand or model would be best.

Any camera experts out there that could help me out?

Here's some pictures of what I'd like to be taking:

  1. Go to bhphotovideo.com. It's the world's largest camera dealer, located in NYC, and very reliable. Decide how much you can afford to pay, and match whichever Nikon DSLR kit fits your budget. Make sure it has a US guarantee.

  2. Best around right now is a nikon d300, high on consumer reports and won the TIPA award for this year..

  3. You can start of with a Nikon D40. It's about $450 with a standard 18-55 lens. Don't be mistaken about it being 6 mp - that is equivalent to more than 12 mp with the Point & Shoot camera like the Coolpix.  Although you can not get enough telephoto from it, you can get an adapter that will multiply the zoom capabilities of it. As you add on, when you need it, call it an investment in equipments and lesson in becoming a good photographer.

  4. my suggestion

    go to yahoo shopping

    digital cameras

    digital camera GUIDE

be sure to check titles on the left side

the guide should answer your questions

  5. As an aspiring photographer, you really need to get something non-digital. it might sound like old hippy nonsense to you, but you really can get some great shots without having it set up in a digital frame. They still have better resolution and work better as pictures as opposed to as computer files. digital cameras are great for artsy stuff you want to photoshop and all that, but because of that, there's alot les pride and credibility to be had. you've already got a digital camera, and quality in those isn't so important so long as they last, because you do have the option of fixing the pictures afterwards.

You'll learn alot more about lighting, angles and setting up shots with a non-digital camera as well. Now, you might be into journalistic photos, i don't know, but in any case, i have to advise you to get a non digital camera. even cheap ones will work fine if you know what you're doing. some of my greatest shots were done with disposables, or with my kodak cameo motordrive. being "obsolete" these should be relatively easy for you to find.
