Question:

What is the best camera under 500 dollars?

I am considering buying a new camera. I want a camera that can create a depth of field. (ex. http://i36.tinypic.com/2cgj9s0.jpg ) I can't spend over $500.

What would you recomend??

  1. Under $500...get Nikon D40 SLR with 18-55mm lens 4 a good start.  Later U can add or rent better lenses.  To do the photo U showed, U'd need proper lighting, makeup, and a lens like an 85mm f/1.4 or 70-200mm f/2.8 lens (very expensive).  U can rent those lenses if U need it now.


  2. It's a tricky thing to get DOF on a point and shoot.

    Some cameras (like the Canon S5IS and G9) are better for it, but still......you're much better off getting a Nikon D40.

    It's an older camera, but really stands the test of time.

    It's nearly a perfect pick, it'll cost you just about 500 bucks.

  3. For photos where you have control over everything, like depth of field, you can get a entry level DSLR, like the:

    Nikon D40

    Canon Rebel xTi

    Sony alpha DSLR-A200K SLR
