  1. I would steer clear of an SUV as a ne driver, the things are so big and heavy, you need a few years driving experience, before getting behind the wheel of 2 tonnes of metal.

  2. toyota corrola

    toyota yaris

    kia rio

    hyundai accent

those cars have good gas mileage and are cheap to

  3. Get a larger, well-maintained used car with a good set of air bags, including side impact bags.  I'd recommend nothing bigger than a 4 cylinder engine, especially for a male driver.

A larger car will have more metal to protect them in a crash.  It won't guarantee no injuries or fatalities, but the odds are better.  The airbags will help, especially the side impact bags.

Get a used car because a teen driver is an accident waiting to happen.  It might as well happen with an older car, rather than a new one.  And the insurance rates will be lower on a used car.  They will still be high, just not AS high, especially if you're only insuring it for liability coverage.

The 4 cylinder engine will keep the kids from trying to race the car.  It won't stop them, but it will keep them from being competitive, or from speeding too much.

My suggestions are used mini vans, or a full sized station wagon if you can find one.  The only downside of this is that you may end up with your kid being the one who drives a whole pack of teenagers around.  Well - if you keep them short on gas money, or make them buy their own gas, it won't happen too much.

  4. I would not suggest an SUV with gas the way it is.

I think though you could do well with a old Geo, Toyota or Nissan. Honda's are too spendy and everything else is too unreliable.

  5. Toyota.  Safe, reliable, cheap models, cheap insurance and best cars built.  Scion of course too.No SUV.
