  1. Pontiac G5- 5 yr/100k powertrain warranty, and good crash test ratings.

  2. I just bought an 08 Nissan Sentra last week. It stickered right at $20K nicely loaded. I recommend it very much as I have been pleased with it so far. I haven't yet burned up it's 1st tank of gas, but amny folks have said it gets 33-38 easily. Reliability is the cars best feature. Also, it's expected to have one of the best resale values in the next three years over & above cars in the same class. You want warranty, buy a Hyundai. You won't get reliability & resale. It's the only thing selling that car. You want safe, buy a big Chevy Impala LS. Any four cylinder car like a Ford Focus, Chevy Cobalt, Nissan Sentra, Honda Civic, Mazda 3, & Toyota Corolla would return the best mpg's out there. So many to list so you need to get online and visit every makers web site and compare. Good luck.

  3. Hyundai Sonata.  Check them out thoroughly before you buy anything.  I'm sure that you'll be very favorably impressed.  I have one with 110,000 miles on it and the only complaint I have is that the radio sometimes fades in and out.  It's tight as a drum and runs almost as well as it did the day I bought it.

They come very well appointed and the upgrade models have the bigger (6 cylinder) engines and leather interior.  But with todays rising gas prices, you might be better off going with the 4 cylinder models.  Don't worry, these 4's have ample pep, just like you.

  4. The best warranty is an expired one. Their ain't no such thing as a trustworthy mechanic, if you want something done right you have to do it yourself.

Great mileage would be a 92-95 Honda Civic VX Hatchback which gets an unheard of 52/55 EPA MPG. It also costs far less than $20,000.

As far as safety goes I don't know how good the Civic would do but you probably still have over $15,000 to spend on it and you can reinforce the doors, get a rollcage, get helmets for all your passengers and etc. It's all a matter of how safe you need it to be. I'd say worrying about it is overkill as long as you have seatbelts and some defensive driving skills.

Re-touching on the warranty thing a Honda CIvic is reliable but you will need to do regular maintenance but if you do it yourself it will be less than $20 for spark plugs, less than $15 for a fuel filter, timing belts should be like $15, good oil is about $8 for 5 quarts, oil filters are like $5, etc.

  5. If you can, wait, Hybrid & other fuel saving technologies will do like cel-phones did, get better & cheaper, very quickly; each obsoleting it's predessor.

Honda is already dropping their hybrid for a diesel    [http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/06/07/... 2009, that should you tell you something.
