My mother was is looking for something to help heat her home this winter in addition to her oil forced air heat. She is even thinking of changing oil if it will change her money in the long run. Thanks.

  1. If she lives alone, she probably doesn't use all of the rooms in her home at the same time.  You might want to look into an under rug heater for space heating in spot areas.  I use one called the Rugbuddy and have saved a lot of money on my heating from it.

  2. If your mother is able to replace her furnace have her get estimates from reputable companies.  There have been a lot of improvements in this field in the last 10 years or so.  Since she has forced air heat already she would not have to replace her ducts unless they are shot.  She should also look into what needs to be done to keep the cold air out of her home  ie. caulking, insulating, etc.

  3. I would go to wood and or coal, even it's just a small stove in the house which will help a lot with the heat.  of course you'll need a chimney., good luck
