I am planning a trip for a few days to an Australian city, (I live in Australia already) I would like to see something different and am not sure whether to drive or fly. I live in North QLD and have been to Cairns and Townsville many times. I want to go somewhere different.

  1. I'm in Queensland too.

For me, it would be either Sydney or Melbourne but I'd end up choosing Melbourne.

Especially in autumn, it's a beautiful time of the year to visit Melbourne.

Great place to visit wouldn't want to live there again.

  2. I would choose Melbourne! Nothing beats our exciting night life, food, entertainment, fashion, shopping and people! It truly is the best place with heaps to do.

    An ideal day:

Have breakfast on the popular, quirky but suave degraves st (near flinders st station).

Make your way to the Eureka Tower (tallest in australia) and go up to the observation deck. Make sure you get to experience the 'edge' this glass capsule which slides out of the building so you can see everything!

Take a stroll down southgate and lunch at one of the very best restaraunts along the yarra or opt for the southgate food court (cheap and yum!) Check out crown casino too! (best at night) Dont miss the plaidium room it has an amazing light and sound show and its free!

Next is the National Gallery of Victoria with amazing traditional and contemporary art works.

If your in to designer shopping hit collins st or catch a tram up to chapel st or if your more of a bargain hunter (like me) catch a tram to bridge rd - excellent shopping strip. Or if shopping is not your thing hit St Kilda beach - its all just a tram ride away.

Next cab it to Lygon St to enjoy some of the best italian restaraunts. Its a really lively strip with excellent food and italian waiters who try and haggle you to come and eat.

Next experience melbourne night life! There are excellent places in St Kilda, Brunswick and in the heart of the city.

After all your dancing your gonna be hungry, make your way to the many late night kebab take away joints.

Finally at 5 am when your ready to pack it in aggressively find a taxi and dont tell them where you are going till you get in.

(they wont take you if its a short distance).

There heaps i have missed out but i am sure if you search the net you will find heaps to do.

Hope to see you in melbourne!

  3. Hi! australia is awesome. I'm just back from a two weeks trip to sydney, melbourne and brisbane( gold coast ) and to be honest.. i think sydney and brisbane is awesome! gold coast if you like a warmer climate, the beach and the amazing amusement parks like movie world, sea world, australia outback spectacular, and the ever so famous dreamworld!!! be sure to check out the beach!! i can't recall the name right now ugh!! Anyway, if you decide to go to sydney, be sure to go to the sydney tower at night! theres an amazing view!!!!~~~ and theres this 3d show in sydney tower also! it rocks! haha. and be sure to go to visit the three sisters, blue mountain! gorgeous places!

  4. The answer depends on what takes your fancy.

You have the capital cities like:

Brisbane which I assume you are from

Sydney which is pretty, all that rock poking out of the ground everywhere, and the harbour.

Melbourne is ok to visit shopping

    Adelaide is different

    Perth is laid back

    Darwin, haven't been there

    Hobart, neither been there

And then, there are Regional Cities, like:

    Newcastle,

    Geelong,

    Albany,

    Bunbury,

    Broome,

    Alice Springs etc?

If you wish to see something different then check out any of the regional airlines that fly via Alice Springs/Ularu and then you could fly onto anywhere:

Kalbarri, Monkey Mia, Exmouth, ElQuestro, or the Bungle Bungles!

  5. Perth.  It's not as overcrowded or as busy as the larger cities.  There are short drives in all directions to see the sites.  Enjoy.

  6. Sydney has just been voted the best city in the world for the second year in a row.

  7. Definitely Perth, the greenest town I have seen! Sidney is great but very expensive. If you like seafood, Doyle's is a must and an institution of its own there. Melbourne has a bustling night live besides its centre with oldfashioned and modern buildings. And if you want to see a small town that's surrounded by a spectacular landscape (other than you expect), fly down to Hobart, rent an RV and enjoy the beaches, rain forests, the mountains - all on one island. Enjoy!

  8. You have no idea what you have started here. The war between Sydney vs Melbourne has started.

In the interest of being fair, I would suggest you visit both. I personally prefer to live near Sydney and holiday in Melbourne.

If you go to Melbourne I would look at October as a nice time to go as winter can be very cold and the summers scorching hot. Melbourne experience all 4 seasons in one day, the weather is very unpredictable.

Sydney is nice all year round, perhaps a summer month, February is USUALLY quite nice, just dont look at this years weather.

There is plenty to see and do in both cities, you wont be disappointed.

should help you with your decision, but be sure to visit both soon, your missing out.

  9. I live and work in Sydney it is a hole, I have visited Melbourne it would be my first choice, although Perth is supposed to be good too.
