  1. A good classical beginner guitar is something like a Yamaha, Crafter or an Aria. For your budget you will get more for your money if you look for a solid top guitar, rather than a laminated top which sounds and feels much cheaper. Something like the Yamaha CG111S would be perfect. This guitar is an excellent beginner guitar and very popular with schools. See a buying guide at http://www.guitar-beginner.com/beginner-...

  2. A $200 guitar won't take you very far, you'll just be aching for better sound in no time.

I started with a Cordoba (@ $550) and I love it. It lacks a little brightness but otherwise beautiful.  Cordoba makes some guitars in the $200-300 range so check 'em out.

The Dean Espana is $200 with a solid cedar top, so check that out if you can.  I haven't heard it myself, but at least it is not a laminate top.

Other than that, I would say check craigslist for used instruments, you're money will go further than if you buy new.

  3. Look up Yamaha with the single cutaway. They sell around $100. Don't let the price fool you either. I was amazed at the sound and action of this guitar.

I checked the neck...perfectly straight and the action, very nice.

Up to you. If you want to spend $200, go right ahead although I would buy the cheaper one. Their's not much difference in sound and there is no difference in the playability.

Better to save and jump into the higher price range once you play well.

BTW, I use Gibsons and Fender, but, when I jam on the beach or whatever, and don't feel to plug electrically, the Yamaha is still hanging in there and good for another 10 years.

Good luck in your search and good on you for learning an instrument!

  5. You won't find anything decent for $200 or less.  However, you can get an Alvarez Classical Guitar for about $300 depending on where you buy it and those are reasonably nice Classical Guitars...  Yamaha has a nice Classical guitar... the CG-171xx which is a bit more... around  $400 but a really nice guitar.  Those are about the only cheap Classical guitars I know of that are actually good guitars... Estaban has one for the usual $200 with all the DVD's and case, but I'm really leary of it because it is so CHEAP.
