  1. Buy a steam or dry cleaning machine so you can do it yourself---or call the pros.

  2. I use Greased Lightening in a white spray bottle. that stuff will take the paint off of the walls its so strong so you may want to dilute it but it cleans everything i've ever tried it on. its great!

  3. If it is really mucky, don`t attempt to do it yourself. The professional cleaners will have better equipment and know-how and will make a better job of it.  Carpet cleaning takes longer than you would expect  it to and is not recommended for a novice.

  4. hazlf a gallon of kerosine and a box of matches filthy stuff carpet at the best of times, oh yes do take it outside first

  5. 1001 Carpet care has always worked for me - relatively cheap and also very effective.

  6. mix 2/3 vinegar with 1/3 water.

apply generously to the carpet and scrub with rag, works everytime....

for deeper stains let stand for a few minutes.

  7. The best way is to pour a little dish, or laundry detergent into a bucket. What you want to do now is to get as much foam built up in the bucket as possible. Try using a kitchen sink sprayer from a distance. Take a scrub brush & scoop up some suds (no water), and scrub away. Your carpet becomes only slightly wet, and you can vacuum it to remove water in spots that you might have gotten excessively wet. Let dry, and then treat the area with a spray on stain repellent. Silicone spray to waterproof shoes, boots, jackets, ect. is what I recommend.

  8. You can get a real professional cleaning with Two cups of White Vinegar added to the steam cleaner tank and fill the remainder with very hot water, do not add any carpet cleaning shampoo, just clean your carpet with the vinegar solution, vinegar will make the carpet look brighter and cleaner and smell fresher Good Luck !

  9. If you can't afford a professional cleaning i would suggest renting a carpet cleaner from the local store. Use 1 cup of bleach water and a cup of oxi clean powder to a gal. of water, put it in the shampooer and clean away.

  10. Depending on how old the carpet is, it may not come up clean, no matter what you use.  You might want to check out the price of replacing it and then decide if it is worth cleaning.

  11. Hire the rug doctor from B&Q

  12. i think you should have it proffesionly cleaned or try and hire a machine to clean it

  13. You can buy a decent carpet shampooer for as low as $150 (some are even cheaper than that, but their cheapness shows. Believe me, I've owned quite a few, lol.)

Or if that isn't in your budget at the moment, you can rent a rug doctor from places like lowe's, home depot, wal mart, even some grocery stores... they're between $30-$60, depends on how long you need it. they're real good too.

But if you buy your own, you'll always have it, always a plus!

    good luck!

  14. Things You’ll Need:

    Rubber Gloves

    Vinegar

    Prespray Carpet Cleaner

    Vacuum Cleaners & Accessories

    Wet Cleaner Vacuums

    Carpet Shampoos

    Step1

Purchase or rent a wet-cleaner machine also known as a steamer, at a hardware or grocery store. When you rent a machine, the necessary cleaning products are usually included or can be purchased at the rental store.

    Step2

    Vacuum the floor thoroughly.

    Step3

Spray heavily soiled areas with prespray or traffic-lane cleaner. For really dirty areas, increase the amount of prespray used instead of increasing the amount of carpet shampoo.

    Step4

Fill the machine's hose or reservoir with hot tap water.

    Step5

Use the machine and carpet shampoo according to the steamer manufacturer's instructions.

    Step6

Maximize the amount of water removed from the carpet by making a water-extraction pass with the water spray on, and then again with the spray off. Test the carpet with your hand. If your hand comes away with water droplets, extract again with the spray off; if your hand comes away damp and the carpet feels wrung out, you have extracted correctly.

    Step7

Wait overnight for the carpet to dry before walking on it. To dry thoroughly, open windows and use fans.

    Tips :

Special solutions are available to treat pet stains and odors.

To help your cleaning last longer, neutralize detergent residue left on the carpet by steaming with a vinegar-water rinse made up of 1 c. vinegar and 1 gallon water.

Oversaturating the carpet can cause water to soak through and damage the floor underneath.

  15. If you have a steam cleaner they are good at cleaning carpets, or a wash and dry vacuum work just as well, and its is cheaper they getting in someone to do it for you, if you can't get any of the above then a good carpet cleaner/shampoo will help.

  16. A professional one. Their machines work better than anything you can rent or buy. For ordinary cleaning, sure, do it yourself but if the carpet is really dirty, hiring someone is the best bet.

  17. I would get it professionally cleaned and then require everyone to practice japanese customs meaning

"Please leave your shoes at the door"

    Good Luck

  18. Bissel cleaners work well and are specificly made for carpets. I would probably get it professionaly done initialy then buy a bissel pro-heat and maintain your carpets.
