Question:

What is the best cleaner to use on my very filthy tile floors and grout?

I just moved into a new place and the ceramic tile floors are filthy. I've tried regular cleaners but they don't seem to make a difference in the greasy residue, and the grout is a mess. I need an extra-strength cleaner of some kind, but I also have a bad back so don't want to have to scrub too hard.

Any ideas? Thanks!

  1. try magic eraser

  2. Greased lightening has always been a great cleaner for me, but plain old clorox and water are the best grout cleaners I have ever found.  If you want to spend the money they also make some speciality grout cleaners available at your local home depot or lowes in the tile area.  Good luck.

  3. Try Mean Green or Oxy Clean.

  4. One of the best solutions is a spray bottle with half water half bleach... spray it on the tile and grout lines. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes. You may have to scrub a bit with a nice stiff brush( get a long handled one for that bad back) but it always worked for me. I had mold on my tile and grout when we moved into our older house, it worked like a charm.

  5. Try simple green, its biodegradeable and you can use it full stenghth.

Rent a buffer with scrub brush.

If that doesnt work, acid wash from Home depot.

All else fails call a professional.

  6. Simple Green and I've heard peroxide works well on grout. You can also rent grout cleaners now from hardware stores. I rented one for one of my customers that has 3 big muddy dogs and white grout. It looked brand new. and easy on the back.

  7. Hi

I clean homes for a living( also janitorial for 15 years) and I know exactly what your floor needs....a good scrubbing with a scrub machine with very hard bristles. Look up a janitorial business in your area and give them a call.  I don't know how much it will cost you,but it will be soooo worth it and then after the initial scrub, you your self will keep up the maintenance...because the people before you obviously didn't. You won't be dissappointed...I've seen it done many times.

  8. I've had tremendous success with Mr. Clean Magic Erasers.  My grout was gross and I used them to get the tile and grout clean.  You won't have to scrub very hard and if your back starts to hurt then use your foot to do the scrubbing.  After you get the grout clean I suggest getting a grout sealer - I bought a can at Lowe's that was really easy to use and it lasts for 5 years.
