What is the best compact digital camera?

I've been thinking of buying the Sony Cyershot DSC-T300. Does anyone have any views on this or is there another one I should be looking at instead? I'm primarily after something very small and compact that will fit in my pocket on holiday etc, so want the best camera subject to this constraint. I.e. small size and weight is the most important factor for me. Many thanks

  1. Sony used to be competitive once upon a time but lately they have been sitting on their past glory. The  DSC-T300 is ok but $300+?? And dimensions wise it is of a strange shape, flat and wide.. not compact at all. I just checked and it is 94 x 59.3 x 21.4 mm

The one I just purchased is the Aiptek PocketCam 8200  more compact at  92 x 50 x 27.5mm and half the money but not half the quality at 8-MegaPixels!

I bought it from http://digital-camera.computereweb.com/b... however they sold them out! I am not surprized.

  2. Here's 6 cameras I've compared side by side for you. All have at the least:

    8 megapixel

    5x optical zoom

    5.1x digital zoom

    USB, Internal

    xD-Picture Card

    Secure Digital

    SDHC

    138 gram

    2.7 inch LCD  review screen

    self-timer

    video recording

and at least 4 expert reviews about the product:

Sony CyberShot DSC-T2 Black look like the best because it have the better than average features, it's the smallest of the sony's, mid-priced, and has more memory included than the rest! Or if you're going to buy your own (bigger) memory card than go with the Sony CyberShot DSC-T300 Black because its the best camera in the comparison, bigger review screen (3.5"),  and it has the new "touch screen" option!

    Hope it helps!

  3. I cannot believe that you REALLY mean small size and weight are the most important things for you!  Are you happy to accept blurry out of focus memories of your holiday?  Many of the really small digitals are TOO small !  They are too small to hold steady and operate the miniscule controls and you get a lot of picture failures as a result. In cameras minaturisation can only go so far before ergonomics go out of the window.

  4. You won't go wrong with a Sony Cybershot!

  5. cnet and tons of other websites can help you narrow it down.  This one will ask you about your priorities, including size, and what types of pics you'll generally be taking: http://reviews.cnet.com/4247-6501_7-3.ht...

You might also want to look into Canon's ELPH series, but I think you'll be happy with the Sony.
