  1. MAC computers ARE the absolute BEST!! They ARE user friendly and not as prone to viruses as PC's are! I have had many PC's and will NEVER go back to a PC since using Mac computer. Also, no matter what kind you get, a laptop really is the best way to go since you can use laptops almost everywhere now. I used my MacBook in a hospital waiting room while my son was having surgery.

  2. Mac's cause more headaches than PC's, despite what you may be told.  Next time you're at where ever you buy software from, look at the selection for Mac OS compared to  Windows.  It's not very big.

Buying a Windows machine ensures that your computer will be compatible with almost any software you buy (whatever you do, don't buy a Mac to run Vista or XP; they cost way too much, and it defeats the purpose of owning a Mac).  Buy contrast, you'll likely have to order your software for your Mac from Apple.

I guess if I had to choose a brand, then I'd recomend a Dell.  They're no good for gaming unless you're going to upgrade to a graphics card instead of sticking with your motherboard's onboard graphics (or buy an Alienware, if you'e just made of money), but they'll run office and artistic aplications beautifully.  It's simple to upgrade things like RAM and your Processor (assuming your mobo supports it, of course), and, so long as you don't abuse it, is actually quite reliable.  And the best part is that you can get a decent one for around $800 that has performance similar to a $2000-3000 Mac, and is compatible with three times the ammount of software.

Though if you want high-end performance for gaming, than your best bet is a custom build.  It provides way more bang for your buck than an Alienware or Voodoo (note that I personally love machines from those companies, but they're horribly overpriced).  For example, I just a week ago built a machine capable of running Crysis on Very High with a decent FPS rate.  Total price?  Around $1450, and that was including a monitor, gaming headset, and Crysis itself (I already had a good mouse and keyboard).  Needless to say, you'll need to either be quite tech-scavy (or know someone who is) to do this, but if you're up to it, the rewards are great.

But again, if you're just looking for a machine to type on and play Microsoft Flight Simulator or Sim City when your boss isn't looking, get a Dell.
