Question:

What is the best cooking magazine?

I like tasty, flavorful, easy recipes that don't take too long. Preferably a magazine that doesn't focus too much on meat/fish since I don't eat those. Eggs and dairy are fine.

I don't need reviews on restaurants or travel either, I'd prefer the magazine's value to be in the recipes.

I'm thinking "Bon Appetit". I've read good reviews about "Intermezzo" too. Is "Vegetarian Times" any good?

  1. Try "Taste of Home."  They have good, basic cooking and always try to have meatless recipes, as well as ones that include beans/peas or lentils.

  2. You can also try, "Rachael Ray". She even has recipes online on her website. www.rachaelray.com

I love her recipes. My favorite right now is Flank Steak Tacos. I know you don't want 'meat', but she may have other dishes you like.

  3. Cooking Light

  4. southern living

  5. I love Cook's Illustrated. It has step by step instructions with photos. It also does test kitchen comparisons of different food products and kitchen tools. Check out their web site for videos etc.

  6. You may like Vegetarian Times.  I subscribed to it for awhile to get ideas for veggie recipes.  The magazine had good recipes, articles and tips on healthy eating.  The recipes were easy enough

Fine Cooking features recipes for a variety of food groups and offers useful  articles related to cooking.

Cuisine at Home is another good way.  It has no advertising at all and is all recipes and food related articles.

I usually go to the bookstore and look at magazine before I subscribe to them so I can see the type of features they usually present.  You mentioned Bon Appetit.  They have great recipes but some of them can be a little fussy and take time to prepare and the magazine is more advertising than recipes.  You can view the recipes featured in the monthly magazine on the epicurious website by typing in a month and a year in the search engine or type in any ingredient for a list of recipes featured in the magazines (Bon Appetit, Gourmet).  Cuisine at Home offers a free magazine by mail and you can see some of the recipes that have been feature in past issues. The Fine Cooking website will allow you to look at some of their recipes for free.

  7. " Taste of Home "  My favorite magazine

    also on-line  http://www.tasteofhome.com/

  8. My faves are Cooks Illustrated and Eating Well.
