What is the best crime/mystery plot ever?

I've never tried crime/mystery, and I want to give it a little bit of a go. Maybe by finding out what your favorite crime/mystery plot is, I can get an idea of the general elements needed.

Agatha Christie is the GREATEST MYSTERY WRITER of all time. i've been searching every garage / booksales for her books, and it's so hard to find some because her books are old. The mystery novel "And Then There Were None" (also by the title "Ten Little Indian Boys") was the best that i've read.

My personal favorites (mystery novels authors) are (in no particular order) Stephen King, Patricia Cornwell, Jeffry Deaver, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes), Sue Grafton, Martha Grimes, J.A. Jance, Edgar Allan Poe, Phyllis Whitney, P.D. James

Murder on the Orient Express or anything by agatha christie. also harlan coben is really good if you like more of a high class luxury murder mystery. i like both.

One of the greatest I've come across is Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. If you want something a little different and a more modern feel I'd recommend watching Burn Notice on the USA Network. In it spy Michael Weston finds out he's been 'burned' by his agency, that means hes been disavowed. In the series he's been trying to find out who's done it to him and why, while helping folks who need his 'special skills'. It has a great twist at the beginning. In season 2 he's been getting closer, but his new handlers are pushing him and he's trying to find out who they are and what they want. Another one I like was from Banacek, seemingly impossible crimes committed which was a twist on the locked room mystery. For example in the pilot Banacek looks into a armored truck that disappeared between Texas & Oklahoma. The two guards were found shot dead in a canyon the end of the truck's tracks in sand, but no truck. Cute huh? LOL
