I'd recommend Celebrity or Holland America, if you're looking at "mass market" lines.

Go to CruiseCritic.com, "Boards" and do some browsing. I believe there is a board for "Over 55" and you can also check out these two cruise lines' boards to get an idea of what they are like. Also check the "Reviews", for both professional and past guest reviews.

I was on the Carribean Princess & most of the people we saw was on your age limit. We were even told why we had not gone on the Carnival cruise since we were young & in our honeymoon (I'm 24). But i like the quietness they had traveling with older people I think is the best way for me to go. There is so much respect between everyone that you fit right in. I don't like the noisiness of people my age & they cost so much mess. I know i might sound like an older women but I like traveling with respected people.

The best cruise is the one that has the itinerary and ports of call that interest the person doing the cruise.

This cruise line looks like it might appeal to the discerning older traveller.

Well I am about that age so I'll give you my opinion and recommendation.  First, unless you just love to be around kids and young folks do not go on Disney or Carnival cruises.  On the other end of the spectrum, if you want to be primarily with older people, like 60's and over primarily, then the cruise line to go on is Holland America.  There will be some young folks there but not many.  Holland America also has lectures and educational programs for older cruisers.  They also have a program to match people who do not have a cruise partner with another person who is cruising solo so that you can share a double occupancy cabin.

Aside from Holland America, Princess, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean would also be good cruise lines, as well as Cunard if you are interested in going on the QE-2 or the Queen Mary for some old style cruising with a lot of formal dinners.

DESTINATIONS:

Older cruisers generally enjoy cruises to Alaska, the Panama Canal and the Mediterranean.  The Alaska cruise offers some marvelous sights and the best cruise to Alaska is the cruise-tour with Holland America, Royal Caribbean or Princess.  On these three lines they offer an extended land tour and a train ride from Anchorage to Fairbanks with your option of a stopover in Denali National Park.    The Panama Canal cruises generally include additional stops in the Caribbean in Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel or Costa Maya, and maybe Costa Rica.  The highlight of course is cruising through the Panama canal locks.  The Mediterranean cruise would be great for older people who want to see some history, like the Leaning tower of Pisa, the Colosseum in Rome and Vatican City, the Acropolis in Greece and some other attractions.  Another option would be a cruise to the Baltic countries; we did that one a year ago and it was great.

Regardless of which of these cruises you pick you will have a mix of people on the ship but not many kids.

I would suggest Holland America Line (HAL) or Celebrity. Both are upscale lines that still charge reasonable prices. Both attract passengers in your age group.

Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Disney and Norwegian all attract younger passengers and are not as upscale as HAL or Celebrity.

well every on says to stay away from Carnival... but it really depends on you. if you don't like young fun loving people stay away from them .. a cruise is about the ports and the food and shows so the rest of your ship mates shouldn't interfere with you.i like them and so does the rest of my group who are mostly 65 plus
