Treatment of asthma remains almost same for elderly people also. But many other chronic diseases are also present along with asthma. They are cardiac diseases, diabetes etc.

unfortunately there is no cure for asthma, my son has had it since birth.  the treatment is an inhaler with some form of albuterol, and/or a nebulizer with something like xopenex or an inhaled solution.  it can be pricey but there isn't much besides a dr visit than can help.  in a pinch try inhaling the fumes of like some Vick's or mentholatum or something that has menthol.  but get medical attention.  there are also things that can be taken as preventatives.  examples, singulair or advair.  hope this helps.

Asthma is typically treated with inhaled medications.  It is important to remember that asthma has two components - airway restriction (wheezing - the "noisy" part of asthma) and airway inflammation (the "quiet" part of asthma).  Thus, asthma therapy typically consists of two inhalers - one is a steriod inhaler, which treats airway inflammation.  The second medication is a bronchodialator that treats airway restriction.   The bronchodialator medication is your "rescue inhaler" - meaning you use it when you have symptoms (wheezing, difficulty breathing).  The steroid inhaler is used EVERY day, even if you don't have symptoms, to keep airway inflammation in check.  Using both medications helps control asthma more effectively, which can help reduce the incidence of asthma exacerbations that often require oral steroid medications, which can have lots of unpleasant side effects.
