  1. Take Sterling pounds with you. The exchange rate in Egypt is better than elsewhere. A Sterling today equals 10.70 Egyptian pounds.

Do not forget your credit card, bring it with you so that you can use it with the ATM machines present everywhere in case you need more than you thought.

You can also pay in most shops, hotels and restaurants by card.

  2. The best 2 currencies in Egypt is LE (Egyptian Pound) or USA Dollars,

But sterling is also acceptable, but can be hard for some buyers to calculate the currency exchange,

Wish you a nice stay and good trip to Egypt,

  3. locals like US$ a lot, also Egyptian pounds is good.

  4. Whatever currency you take make sure its secure

  5. well, all the currencies are the same..you will find 100's of banks and exchange shops in all Egypt which are working days and Night  but bear in mind the following

    1) Traveler Cheques  are not that good as you pay fees and commissions to have them and Cash them

    2) DO NOT exchange any money in your country to the Egyptian pound as you will lose a lot,, the best rates of the Egyptian pound will be when you change whatever currency you have into the Egyptian pound in Egypt

    3) I would prefer always to use credit cards as they will give you the best rate for the Egyptian pound

4)Do not deal with people with any currency than the Egyptian pound,, it is cheaper,,,example: if you want to  tip, either you will give 3 /5 E pounds.. or say 2 $ which equal 11 pounds it is always cheaper to use the Egyptian pounds

    5) Now something a lot do not know even the Egyptians, sometimes shops accept  different currencies than the Egyptian pound,,, actually that is ILLEGAL as, they act in that case as an exchange shop...of course a lot do that  but still it is Illegal, and you will get very bad rate for your money,, and in case of problems you can not complain as I mentioned before because it is ILLEGAL

  6. Id go with sterling travellers cheques and a bit of Egyptian Cash, but not too much.

  7. We have just come back from sharm, they do not like their own currency but prefer English pounds dollars and euros

    have a great time

  8. I decide on my budget, then take 90% Egyptian currency - which I change here in UK before I go as the rate is very good and you can get foreign currency without paying commission, then you are all set for when you land - I like to be ready prepared. Also, you will find that there is not much difference between rates when exchanging in UK and exchanging in Egypt.

The big hotels in Egypt have a currency exchange office, but I did not find them in the smaller, cheaper ones. I take 10% of my budget in sterling, it is handy for tipping the tour guides, as I found they like sterling better than LE. But you do not need much sterling - if any!

If you are going on a cruise be sure you have Egyptian currency, as the boats seem to have a problem exchanging currencies.

DO NOT take travellers cheques as I found a lot of places in Egypt do not want them, and will refuse them.

If you intend using your credit card, just remember that you will be charged for exchanging currencies, and using at an ATM will incur big fees.

Just make sure that you keep your cash in a safe place - I sewed a pocket into my pants, lol, it was very safe!

    Have a great time.

    :)

  9. egypt cash so you dont end up broke because the seller found out you were a foreigner, and so you can buy anything from anywhere (some places wont accept foreign money)

  10. if you come from the UK , bring Sterling with you .

exchange about 300 Sterling when you arrive .

ask for some change , ie , 10 and 5 Egyptian pound notes to be able to give tips to porters and waiters who serve you .

bring your credit card  in case you  need more cash than what you bring with you .

i dont advise you to bring traveller's cheques .

they are restricted  to specific offices whereas cash is easy to handle .

    have a nice trip.

  11. Sterling is acceptable anywhere in Egypt.
