I have a strip that I need to adhere to a portion of my countertop. I would like to cut it as straight as possible, but not really sure what cutting instrument I should use. Any ideas.

  1. You will need a straight edge and a utility knife just score were you need the straigt line in hard to reach places you can use yellow handle snips they look like scissors Good Luck and Have Fun

  2. I used to watch my Daddy do it all the time.  He lined up a straight edge along the line he wanted to cut and used a utility knife to score the laminate (from the underside).  Then, he just snapped it and it came apart perfectly every time.

  3. A table saw will work fine.

  4. After any of the above methods, be sure to use a fine flat file to smooth the edge if it will be exposed.. It will be very sharp so even if it will be covered up, handle with care - use gloves and safety glasses.

  5. Normally you cut the piece as described above with a utility knife but cut it oversize. After you attach the piece with contact cement, use a laminate trimmer (looks like a small router) to trim the piece for a perfect fit and smooth edge finish.
