What is the best digital cable converter box available?

I had digital cable installed yesterday and the cable guys were basically confused and incompetent. I ended up with 3 totally differenet converter boxes and 3 different remotes in each room. Is there one kind of box which is better than any other for digital cable?

  1. Cable boxes are specific to each cable provider.  TimeWarner boxes are made by Scientific Atlanta, Comcast boxes are Motorola.

    There are 4 types of boxes - regular box, HD box, Regular DVR and HD DVR.  

    Depending on your TVs and your request, you might end up with a different boxes in every room - but the remotes should be interchangeble.  They are for TimeWarner and Comcast.

    There is no "best" box - but it your TV is HD capable, get an HD box.
