I want and 8.0-10.0 megapixel camera. It should have the newest technology and should be a good recognized brand.

  1. I'd say the best camera for your money would be one of these three:

    Canon sd750 - $179.99 (1 gb sd= $10)

    Canon sd770 - $249.99 (1 gb sd= $10)

    Olympus 1010 - $249.99 (1 gb xd= $20)

The canon 750 is the lowest in cost and takes really good pictures and has alot of great features. It has a good ISO for taking low light photos. One big perk would be the spacious 3 inch screen. downside is it has 7 mp (you specified 8+) but the camera is good for the price and specs.

The Canon sd770 is a step up from the 750. It is equally comprable to the 750; the major difference between the two is MEGAPiXELS. the 770 has 10 mp and the 750 has 7mp. The software and features are basically identical.

The Olympus 1010 is also a good camera, It has 10.1 mp; the thing that makes it stand out from other point and shoot digital cameras is the optical zoom (7X). Again, this camera has tons of cool features and a billion scene selections which auto-adjust the camera's lighting and flash settings depending on the scene you have selected (ie: low light, underwater, sunny, close-up... etc. there are about 25+ scene selections to choose from.) The downside of the olympus is the battery life sucks, so id suggest if you go with this one, do yourself a favor and buy a spare battery.

  2. Fuji 10.0megapixel camera at camera house for $249. uses xd or sd cards which can be bought cheap

  3. Well, begin with the brands.  Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Pentax, Olympus, etc.  Then decide what features you want.  EVERY camera today has 7-8 megapixels at least.  Do you want a tiny 'pocket' camera?  A 'prosumer'?  I guess SLRs are out of your range.  It would be nice to have IS, image stabilization (I thought this was a gimmick when I bought my Canon but it's very nice, it's made some pictures possible that otherwise wouldn't be).  It would be nice to have a good zoom range.

As for the memory card, they are really cheap these days.  I paid $60 for my first 1-gig memory card but they are like $8 now.

There are so many models of cameras coming out all the time that nobody can really tell you what you want.  I have a Canon and I love it, I think they do a good job.
