What is the best digital camera brand for a first time buyer?

Hello, i have been looking at digital cameras for the past month and i have come to the conclusion that i can't not decide what brand should i get. I love to take pictures, but i mostly borrow my parents to take pictures. but i want to get my own now. i have been looking at cameras with about 7-10 megapixels so i can crop pictures and still look nice and it must have face detection also and other basic needs for a camera. But i have been flip-flopping between cannons,kodaks,nikons and pretty much any other brand out there. My sister just bought a cannon powershot for about 200 and it is a good camera, but i want more input before i waste a bunch of money. and i don't plan on spending loads of money on it either, probably around 100-200 is about how high i will go. so does anybody have any recomendations for a good camera to buy, or atleast the best brand?

real good value for the money at $140 bucks or so. Not sure where you can buy it from.

I personally like the Nikon, but a Canon is good too. In the $100-200 range it is going to be hard to find a really good camera no matter what brand it is.

Canon for point-and-shoot, Nikon for SLR's.
