  1. The Cannon SD750 (black) seems to be one of the best cameras for the money. Also, consider a similar camera with an optical view finder. This really helps in bright sun.

Almost all cameras take landscape pictures. The two links below should help you find one that will do what you want at a price that you will like.

The last link is about keeping your battery and camera contacts clean.  Digital cameras require lots of power.  If the contacts are not really clean it can cause lots of problems.

  2. with traditional film cameras pro landscape photogs use 4x5 film almost exclusively.

in a digital camera that translates to thousands of dollars and a camera with a full size image sensor. what are you willing to spend for a pro landscape camera?

  3. If money isnt a factor to your decision, you may want to consider a dslr camera. Entry-level dslrs can be had for under a grand. However, you will also need a wide-angle lens to capture landscapes. Lens are extremely expensive, so think well before buying. Another camera I recommend is the upcoming panasonic lx3(debuting this fall). It features full manual control over iso, shutter and aperture. It's 24mm lens are also well suited for landscapes, along with it's 16:9 aspect ratio. It's a fairly compact camera that can easily fit into pockets. Expectations for this camera are currently really high, so expect the camera to perform well. http://panasonic.net/pavc/lumix/lx3/inde...

  4. That is very hard to answer. It depends entirely on how much you want to spend. The best digital cameras are medium format backs and cost upwards of $10000.

Most photographers would be happy with a modern DSLR and a high quality lens (or two). Most of the SLR manufacturers make cameras that would do the job but I would always recommend going for one of the two leaders Canon or Nikon.

An example of a camera that would be great for landscape photography would be the new Nikon D700 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/57...

But you can also achieve great results with an entry level DLSR as long as the lens is up to the job.
