What is the best digital camera for my money?

I'm looking at spending no more than $300 for a digital camera. I don't want anything professional. But I am intending on it lasting for quite a while. I've been looking pretty hardcore at the sony cybershot but I was wondering what other, more camera savvy people had and their opinions.

Kodak V1003 is awesome! its about $200 and then a sim card is about $20-$40! It has different effects sepia, black & white...etc. Ans it has 8mp Its very easy to control. The buttons are very nice and the quality of the pictures is great!
