try rinsing them off b4 putting them in dishwasher.

Sure they can take of caked on food but you also can get residue and dishes that are not completely clean.

Cascade w/ bleach liquid. Try cleaning the trap in the base of dishwasher also.

I use Cascade, but if the dishes are left out  with crusty cheeses and sauce on them no detergent or machine will clean them unless you rinse them first, so if that's the problem place the dishes in to the dishwasher and run the rinse cycle to rid of the debris then when you have a full load wash them all !

No dishwashing detergent should leave your dishes dirty.  If your dishes are coming out dirty, it is probably the fault of your dishwasher.  

If you're referring to water spots, any detergent that has a surfactant in it will help with that.  However, surfactants are very bad for the ecology.  I've learned to do without surfactants and I now manage to not even see water spots!

I use "The wife". She won't let me wash up as I don't do it right. Shame that.
