Question:

What is the best distortion pedal for me?

I play an american highway one hss strat through a Fender Hot Rod deluxe amp. I like hendrix, red hot chili peppers, white stripes, U2, ect...

but I mostly play the chili peppers- so I was wondering what the best pedal for me was. I want that sound that John gets on his leads, and I have already tried the Ibanez TS-9 and realized that it was basically just a tube amp inside the pedal. I have heard the DS-2 (Boss) is very good but if anyone knows the tone I am talking about and has some input, I will gladly hear it.

Thanks

  1. G'day mate. I do know the type of tone you're talking about, & i think I've found it myself. I've tried all sorts of effect pedals over the years, & so far for that 'fat tube' sound in a pedal, I'm yet to find anything as good & true as the Danelectro Retro series. Great warm tube tones, plenty of grunt, heaps of harmonic variation, & a fantastic groovy looking box aswell. I'm a strat player, but i've played my jag(' 62,double humbucking pick-ups) through it, & it blew my hair back.
