What is the best driving route from Bangalore to Calicut and how long does it take?

The road distance between Bangalore and Kozhikode, (CALICUT) is about 372 Km (If you start from Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore and your travel ends near Calicut Railway Station)

Depending on your time of driving, number of food breaks etc, and your driving skills/vehicle, it may take between 8 - 10 hours.

Following is the detailed route:

1. NH-209 until Mysore via Kanakapura, Malavalli and Bannur. Distance about : 149 Km

2. From Mysore, take NH-212 until Kozhikode (Calicut) via Nanjangud, Gundlupet, Bhandipur, Gudalur, Devarshola, Nelliyalam and Pantheeramkavu. Distance about: 223 Km

Bangalore-Mysore: Take SH-17.

Distance: approx. 140 kms. via Bidadi, Ramanagarm, Maddur, Srirangapatna and onto Mysore

Good and fast road.

You should reach Mysore within 2 - 2.5 hours.

Note: My timings are based on early morning starts when traffic is low on this route.

Mysore-Calicut: Take NH-212

Distance: Approx 220 kms. via Nanjangud, Gundlupet, Muthanga, Sultan Battery, Kalpetta, Koduvally, Kunnamangalam onto Calicut.

Time: Approx 4-5 hours depending on traffic on the ghat section

Good roads (except around 20 kms or so between Gundlupet and the Bandipur forest)

Twisty but fast.

Good places to have a  break for food:

Channapatna: Janapada Loka -- excellent North Karnataka food

Mysore - several places

Sultan's Battery

Kalpetta (Haritagiri, Woodlands, Green Gates)

If you have time, stop at Vythiri (just before the descent down the Western Ghats -- 13 hairpins) to admire the view and take pics.
