What is the best (easiest and least expensive) way to record TV programs now that I am using a converter box?

With the switch to digital, via a converter box, my old VCR no longer works well (a fuzzy picture). How can I record football games (to be watched a few times and then overwritten)? What is the capacity of these new devices?

  1. First, hookup the antenna to the converter input, and the converter output to the vcr input, and finally the vcr output to the tv.

You will have to tell the VCR to record either channel 3 or 4, whichever channel you have the output of the converter set to. You will also have to leave the converter on, and set on the network/show that you want to record.

One of the disadvantages of using any converter box (dtv, cable or satellite), is that you usually lose the ability to time shift on multiple channels. For example, if you are not home, and you want to record NBC at 8 PM and Fox at 9 PM, you will not be able to do it, since you are not there to change the channel on the converter box.

    I hope this helps
