  1. Well it depends on what you would like to play.

    I personally like 2nd or 3.5.

    3.5 is easiest to learn

4th is so new that I would not recommend it to anyone at this time.

  2. AD&D or no D&D

  3. I've played and enjoyed them all (tho my 4E experience is naturally limited so far.) While I very much liked 3.5, I can see why WotC made some of the choices they did in 4E to try and level the playing field between classes - I had no end of games where combats basically came down to who won initiative and nothing else. I won't miss the 'go first or go home' mentality at all.

  4. Tough call, and almost every gamer will have a different answer or a different reason for it.

Basic and second never did it for me, why anyone would play first instead of the essentially the same only expanded second is beyond me, so for me it comes down to 3.5 vs 4e

The real problem here is that 3.5 and 4e are two VERY different games with different styles and target audiences.  Right now, I'd still lean towards 3.5 for it's sheer variety of options.  But I think as 4e expands, I'll end up liking it better, simply because I don't have to feel that I'm deliberately choosing to play under powered characters just because I like melee over spellcasters.  At the same time, if I choose to play a mage, I don't have to feel like I'm overpowering the other characters.
