What is the best elementary school that I can homeschool my child through?

I homeschooled my daughter through a wonderful high school, but the program she used was only for grades 9-12. My son is supposed to start elementary school this coming up year, but I really prefer to homeschool him. I would love to know some good accredited elementary/middle schools. I am interested in regular homeschools or Christian based. And please, they really need to be affordable! Thank you so much! Best Regards

  1. I have a great school you should REALLY  consider looking at... It is an online charter school/cyber school. It is avaliable for all grades. It is called Connections Academy. But its only available in 13 states. you should take a look at it www.connectionsacademy.com

    1. No tuiton, its comepletely free

    2. Materials are all shipped ups to your house.

    3. You get a laptop to use during your enrollment in the school.

    and soo much more...

please consider this if you live in a state that offers it.

    hope i helped.

  2. I agree with Junie- Connections Academy is awesome and it is free!! This is our first year using it and I cannot believe the difference in my child. Hope you look into it as an option, it is really good.

  3. Accreditation is really unnecessary, especially for the elementary grades.

However, this school offers secular and christian programs, both  on-line and text based, for all grades:

In addition, you might find info at http://www.k12.com

  4. Are you talking about virtual schools, on line charters or materials and curriculae for a parent to do the homeschooling?

  5. It sounds like your older daughter was part of a *public* virtual school.  I stress the word public, because you didn't do "true" homeschooling.  You did school at home with her.  Is that what you're looking for with your younger child?  It's going to depend on what state you're in and if they allow virtual charter schools for elementary.  Some are local and some are statewide.

You do NOT need accredited schools/programs.  It doesn't mean a whole lot and there are plenty of private schools (which is what HS's generally are in most states) that are not accredited.

There are many online options.  Most are not "affordable" - which is relative - we can afford $3000/year for our son's homeschool education.  Someone else can only afford $100.

There is K12, Abeka, Bob Jones, CLASS, Calvert...on and on and on...

  6. Abeka has DVD's. These feature teachers in actual classrooms.  The plus is that every parent I know likes it at first, and the kids get to 'know' their classmates a bit.  The downside is that there is a lot of 'wasted' time on the DVD's since it IS an actual classroom.  Using these will provide your child an EXCELLENT education.  What I've found is that after awhile the moms think: "I could teach that particular subject faster and easier" so they take over that one subject, and it sort of grows from there...  As far as just the Abeka textbooks w/o the DVD's, they are excellent.  Many curricula don't do much REAL teaching in kindergarten, but Abeka certainly does.

BJUP has HomeSat, which is individual courses [such as 10 grade Literature and 2nd grade Spelling] that can be rented, or you can get the satellite dish and put it on your house and tape the courses you need.  This is also good, although I wouldn't recommend a student doing their whole day this way or it takes tooo long.  My kids do one or two courses each year through HomeSat and have since 3rd grade.

As far as my own preferences, I like MathUSee for math, and BJUP or Abeka for grammar [Abeka is better at grammar while BJUP is better at writing], BJUP for spelling, Abeka for reading but BJUP for upper level literature, Apologia for science, and Praise Hymn for Bible.  Every year I look at Rainbow Resource to choose art and logic courses.  Oh, and God's World News puts out current events on every level.

  7. Here's a list of providers of traditional school programs that will likely meet your needs:

    http://www.successful-homeschooling.com/...

Both Bob Jones and Abeka are referenced there and they both have DVD type programs.

    Hope this helps!
