  1. Solar power is next to useless - we don't have the means to convert enough of it, effeciently enough.  And, what few people realise is that if you use up a lot of the solar energy as it comes to earth, it doesn't heat up the planet during the day and it will be very cold at night.

Wind power in unreliable - so it's not viable as a permanent solution.

Gas, coal and oil are no good as we can't keep producing CO2.

So the only 'clean' option we have left is nuclear.  It's not perfect (especially if things go wrong), but until someone works out "cold fusion", it's all we've got....

  2. I think solar power is the best energy resource. Its intial cost is expensive, but think of how much money would be saved in the long term!

  3. There is no best energy source. That is why we still use many different sources. Gasoline is not used to generate electricity because diesel or natural gas or even coal is better. Coal is not used to run cars because gasoline is better. Nuclear and solar and wind and falling water are all used to generate electricity but each has advantages and disadvantages.

The problem I see here on this form so often is the people are over simplifying. They are saying that if we just embraced their one favorite energy source all our problems would be solved. That is simply not true. Solar panels are good when small amounts of power are needed in a remote location far from power lines, but are no use for powering a steel mill. Nuclear power can produce lots of power but is expensive and clumsy and politically unpopular. Coal is cheap and abundant but dirty. Natural gas is clean but hard to transport and there is not enough of it. And on and on. Each energy source has advantages and drawbacks.

let me start off by saying Hydrogen is a great option for the concept of free energy.     I built my first hydrogen cell about 5 years ago. Have converted over 50 vehicles in the last 10 years (gydrogen and EV) and now currently run 2 trucks (and another EV), my home hot water heater, home stove and home generator on hydrogen for free with caught rain water and the help of a $10 solar panel.  I offer a step by step DIY guide to walk anyone interested threw the process. You can find it at www agua-luna com or you can email me.

There are basically 3 safe ways to make and use it... chemically, electrically and molecularly, the first 2 being easier so I'll only discuss them here. The fallowing steps were taking directly out of a DIY guide I offer to those who would like to run their vehicles or home on hydrogen safely. The entire guide is available at www agua-luna com

On demand h2 generators are a bit different from the Hollywood versions like seen Chain Reaction with Keanu Reeves, that tend to explode violently every time a film is being made. However when used in an on-demand system there is no storage of hydrogen and oxygen in its gas form, only liquid (water) and is only transformed into gas “on-demand” in small cylinder size amounts. It’s actually safer then gasoline as it doesn’t evaporate, creating explosive fumes in the tank like gas. the following were actually taken out of my $5 guide available at www agua-luna com

        Chemically

        1. You’ll need a 6inch x 1ft schedule 40 pvc pipe. With pvc cement glue a cap on the bottom and use a s***w on cap for the top. Drill a small hole (1/4inch or so) in the side close to the top, s******g in a small copper shut off valve. Place a few feet of stranded (food grade is good) flex hose to the valve and into the air intake of your engine (carburetor or fuel injections).

        2. Now crunch up a couple aluminum cans (beer cans, soda cans etc) and drop them into the pvc pipe, along with a couple cups of lye (Red Devil drain opener has lye in it, some Clorox and Drano’s do to).

        3. Then simply add water, s***w on the top and wait a few minutes.

What happens in simplicity is that aluminum and lye don’t really get along so they battle, and as always the innocent civilians (water H2O) that the most casualties, by giving up its hydrogen and oxygen. This then builds up in the void of the pipe and is ready to be vented into your engine, by opening the valve. You may need to start your engine on gas then switch it off after the hydrogen starts burning.

Electrical is a bit easier then Chemically.

        1. Simply take a small solar panel 1.5 amps is what I use ($9 at harborfreight.com), connect the 2 wires from the panel +- to 2 conductors (carbon cores of batteries work well, just be careful removing it from the jacket), but any conductive material will work ie. Copper, aluminum, steel, etc.

        2. Drop the wires into a water tank (I use 55gal drums), make sure they don’t touch each other.

        3. Drill a small hole (1/4inch or so) in the side close to the top, s******g in a small copper shut off valve. Place a few feet of stranded (food grade is good) flex hose to the valve and into the air intake of your engine (carburetor or fuel injections).

        4. Then simply add water, s***w on the top cap and wait.

After a few hours tiny bubbles will form and rise off one conductor (that’s hydrogen) and even smaller bubbles that just looks like foam will rise off the other (oxygen). I don’t remember which likes the positive and which likes the neg hydrogen or the oxygen.

The third method is more complicated and is what I use for my vehicles. It’s just a modified Joe’s Cell, there’s a step by step DIY guide available to walk you threw the process here www agua-luna com

It also covers the other 2 methods described in more detail.

Hope this helped, feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions if you’d like assistance in making your first self sufficient steps, I’m willing to walk you step by step threw the process. I’ve written several how-to DIY guides available at  www agua-luna com on the subject. I also offer online and on-site workshops, seminars and internships to help others help the environment.

  5. For energy and efficiency, oil is an excellent energy resource. Although, it creates vast amounts of pollution and it is not a renewable source. Renewable sources such as solar, wind etc are inefficient and unreliable. Bio fuels tackle both global warming and oil depletion, they are good transport fuels, but cannot be used as air line fuel as they turn vicious at low temperatures. They work well if they are grown sustainably meaning they do not deplete tropical forests or compete with food supplies. Jatropa is a plant which can be grown in poor soil with little fertiliser and water. this means it will not compete with food production, nor destruct forests which destroys habitats. Therefore this may be the best bio fuel.

  6. Solar, wind and wave power.

Its clean, sustainable and renewable and unlike nuclear will not leave major clean up bills and problems for thousands of years.

  7. I watched a show on discovery channel a few month ago in which they discussed various renewable power sources.  They pointed out that covering 10% of the state of Nevada (BTW 80% of Nevada's land area is owned by the federal govenment) with solar panels would create enough energy for the entire US to consume (with the exception of fossil fuel based vehicle like your car).

They also discussed using the undercurrents of the ocean in much the same way windmills work.  The currents under the ocean move all the time.  The motion of the currents can be harvested for electricity.  (I like this one because unlike the wind turbines that you can see, underwater turbines would not be seen)

The Netherlands gets 90% of it's power from geothermic sources (The volcanic activity underground).   They use pumps to push water underground to the volcanic activity to super heat the water.  The pressure from the steam can be turned into electricity.

In several area of the country, GE has established Wind based power plants, renting land area from farmers.  They have the ability to harness a lot of energy from wind based sources.

  8. sun wind and water. you have 3 options. if one becomes unreliable for a while you can switch.

  9. For what it's worth, here is my contribution and don't laugh, like when I told my work colleagues over dinner one evening.

You know the Garden Solar Lights we stick out. Guessed it yet? No, well they light up at night don't they, and what I do is bring in a couple of them into the hall and in the lounge as I watch telly. Very relaxing, no tripping over wires, very good security .. and best of all it's FREE. I am now called Florence Nightengale!!!!

Try it tonight (big savings on bulbs)

Any other tips i am willing to oblige as I was once an energy effiency advisor!

  10. I think one day solar power will be very cheap to make. It takes time and mass scale production.

One day grass or yard waste can be used at cheap prices to produce energy. It takes time to invent new tecnologies.

Imagine if this world is not 90% believers and all are atheists? This world would have a combined intelligent minds to do almost anything.

Nothing will hold the human mind back. Imagine that just for a second but reality is 90% believes in superstitions.

  11. Our best energy resource is that  thermonuclear reactor sitting a safe 93 million miles away. It provides for multiple secondary energy sources like biomass, photoelectric, wind, wave, and tidal.

    Geothermal runs a close second.

Even oil is stored solar energy. But maybe we should leave those hydrocarbons where they are.

  12. The power of thought (human mind) is the best energy resource.  It is from there that we will develop the future--the power to save, or the power to destroy.  It is every individual's responsibility to affect change in our own area of influence as we see fit--primarily in the walls of your own home and daily life--without waiting for some organization to fix it for you or some organization to force others to behave in the manner you think proper, whether that be the government or other society-bast organization.

  13. Solar power. But it depends where you live.

  14. The sun,And i don't mean the newspaper.
