Hayao Miyazaki is very good. I suggest Pom Poko (Isao Takahata) or Grave of the Fireflies (Isao Takahata again)

Grave of the Fireflies is the best movie....  very sad, but unforgettable.

My personal favorites?

Ghost in the Shell (original movie) and Macross: Do You Remember Love.

All of Miyazaki's classics are excellent... Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Tortoro etc.
